On August 11, 2020, Hawaiian Electric completed work to connect the Nā Pua Makani wind project to O‘ahu’s electric grid.
As noted in our earlier update, testing at the site started in June and will continue over the coming weeks – including a thorough evaluation of each turbine’s safety and operational functions – ahead of the project’s commercial operation at the end of this summer. Community members will begin to see the turbines operating periodically as part of these ongoing testing activities.
After performing extensive studies and securing all of the necessary permits, we are confident Nā Pua Makani is safe. We look forward to sharing our progress as we complete the final testing phase, and ultimately, delivering this locally-produced renewable energy that will power up to 16,000 homes on O‘ahu.
